Telugu subtitle & caption generator
Telugu captions can be set in తెలుగు, in English letters, or translated into English. Every template below is previewed in Telugu, whose second consonant in a cluster sits under the first, so rows need space beneath them.

Captioning in Telugu
Telugu script is built from rounded letters, and it grows in three directions at once: marks on top of the letters, consonants tucked underneath them, and vowel signs on the right. That makes the space between rows the first thing to set for Telugu captions. After that, the choices are about fonts, of which the editor has an unusually long Telugu list, and about how English words spoken inside Telugu sentences should be written.
Head marks and letters underneath
Many Telugu consonants carry the talakattu, a small tick on top of the letter. Adding a vowel sign often changes that top: in కి the vowel sign takes the place of the tick. The signs ు and ూ attach to the right-hand side instead, so a word also widens as its vowels change.
When consonants cluster, the second is written as a vattu, a reduced form placed under the first, as in క్క or స్త, and a syllable can carry more than one. The anusvara ం, a small circle after the letter, sits at mid-height. Set two rows of Telugu close together and the vattulu of the upper row can run into the head marks of the row below.
Telugu faces in AutoCap
Baloo Tammudu 2, rounded and heavy, is what draws Telugu in any template whose own font is Latin only. The Telugu section of the font list is long, and much of it is display and text faces with a strong character of their own, so try candidates on a real line from the transcript rather than on a sample. Good places to start:
- Hind Guntur, Anek Telugu and Noto Sans Telugu: sans-serifs that stay readable when a caption holds a whole sentence.
- Noto Serif Telugu and Tiro Telugu: serifs, with more contrast between thick and thin strokes.
- Baloo Tammudu 2, picked on purpose, for captions meant to look soft and weighty.
Telugu script, Tenglish or English
Telugu speech often borrows English words and gives them Telugu endings. An English word ending in a consonant usually gains a final u when said the Telugu way, so car becomes కారు and bus becomes బస్సు. In Telugu script that is simply how the word is written; in romanised captions it becomes a decision between car and kaaru, or bus and bassu. Viewers who type Telugu in Latin letters, sometimes called Tenglish, see both, but a video reads better when it settles on one.
An English translation drops what Telugu builds into family words. అన్న is an elder brother and తమ్ముడు a younger one, అక్క an elder sister and చెల్లెలు a younger one, and English turns all four into brother or sister. Where the relationship matters to the video, a romanised caption that keeps anna or akka carries it.
Checking a Telugu transcript
Telugu marks long and short vowels with different signs, and the difference can change the word: అది means that, while ఆది means beginning. A transcript can lose a length mark where the speaker hurried, so read vowel signs as closely as consonants. Compare names with their usual spelling, look at ళ and ల, which fast speech blurs, and prefer digits to numbers written out in words, since a figure reads faster in a short caption.
Questions
Why do Telugu captions need more space between rows?
Consonants in a cluster are written underneath the first, and many letters carry a tick on top, so a line of Telugu is taller than a line of English. On two-row templates, raise Line spacing until the rows stop touching.
Should a romanised Telugu caption say car or kaaru?
Either works if the whole video uses the same one. Kaaru follows how the word was said; car is quicker for viewers who mostly read English.
